VIT’s Master of Engineering Management and Innovation (MEMI) is a post-graduate course at the Australian Qualifications Framework (AQF) Level 9.

The course is designed to prepare the next generation of engineering and technology leaders with the advanced business skills, strategic frameworks, and technical insight required to lead innovation and drive organisational growth in technology-driven environments.

Exit Qualifications
To provide maximum flexibility, we provide multiple exit qualifications. Successful students are eligible for the highest of these for which they have met the criteria:
  • Master of Engineering Management and Innovation – 96 Credit Points
  • Graduate Diploma of Engineering Management and Innovation– 48 Credit Points
  • Graduate Certificate of Engineering Management and Innovation– 24 Credit Points
RPL will be applied where possible by mapping onto entire units, rather than as unassigned credit. Students must complete at least 50% VIT units in order to qualify for a VIT award.

Graduation Requirements

To graduate with the MEMI, you must complete 96 credit points. Students with prior study in related fields or relevant professional experience may be eligible for advanced standing through recognition of prior learning or credit transfer (RPL/CT).

To be awarded the Graduate Diploma of Engineering Management and Innovation (GDEMI), a student must successfully complete 8 units (6 core and 2 electives), totalling 48 credit points.

To be awarded the Graduate Certificate of Engineering Management and Innovation (GCEMI), a student must successfully complete 4 core units, totalling 24 credit points.

Course Content

To complete the Master of Engineering Management and Innovation (MEMI), students must complete 96 credit points, including:

  • 8 core units
  • 5 elective units
  • 1 research methodology unit
  • A two-part capstone project

Students with relevant prior study or professional experience may be eligible for advanced standing (RPL/CT), which may reduce the duration of the course.

18 years or older at commencement of course.

An English Language proficiency level of one of the below:

  • Meet the entry requirements through one of the following English Language Tests:
    • Academic IELTS band overall 6.5 and no individual band less than 6.0
    • Academic PTE: 58 or above with no communicative skill below 50
    • TOEFL (iBT): 79 or above; Writing 21; Speaking 18; Reading 13;Listening 13
    • TOEFL (Paper): 577 + TWE 4.5
    • CAE: 176 or above with no skill below 169
    • A Levels with a C or better in English/English literature in the General Certificate of Education (GCE)
    • Other tests as approved by Academic Board
  • Passed Australian Year 12 English
  • Successful completion of a degree or diploma in Australia
  • Completion of Certificate IV in EAL
  • Satisfactorily completed ELICOS or EAP to the appropriate level (equivalent to IELTS 6.5 overall and no band less than 6.0)
  • Complete English language bridging course through a recognised English language centre
  • Satisfactorily completion of at least one semester of study in Australia in a tertiary course (satisfactorily for this purpose would mean that the applicant has completed 50% or more of the semester load)
  • Completion of schooling from the following countries where English is the official language: Australia, Canada, New Zealand, Singapore, United Kingdom and United States of America
  • In exceptional cases, the Executive Dean or delegate, can consider an English entry requirement waiver, other than the above criteria, on a case-by-case basis as deemed fit.

  • Any recognised degree is required to enter VIT’s MEMI course. A recognised degree is any Australian or equivalent overseas degree at AQF level 7 or above.
Non-Graduate Entry: Graduate Certificate
  • If a candidate does not hold any previous bachelor’s degree (AQF 7) or a recognised equivalent qualification from any other country, the candidate can be admitted to Graduate Certificate of Engineering Management and Innovation (GCEMI) with at least five years of relevant experience, and if they successfully pass the foundation units they may exit with a GCEMI and/or may continue with the MEMI course.

Frequently asked questions

Full time means you study 6-8 units in an academic year. Part time gives you the flexibility to take a lighter course load, which gives many working people more flexibility. Part time study is only available to students not on student visa. It is estimated each unit could take between 6 and 10 hours each week of classes, readings and assignments. This can vary depending on how quickly a student becomes familiar with the course material.

You may be eligible for RPL credit if you have completed a Bachelor degree (AQF Level 7 equivalent) or above in management, IT, Engineering.

Financial aid may be available depending on your circumstances and where you are resident.

Domestic students may be eligible for Fee-HELP from the Government and could be eligible for a VIT Scholarship
